Navajo Code Talkers Day
August 14, 2021 @ 8:00 am
Established through a presidential proclamation by President Ronald Reagan on August 14, 1982. It was the anniversary of the day the Japanese surrendered to the U.S. It was not until December 2006 that the Navajo Nation created an official tribal holiday for Aug. 14 to honor and remember the Navajo Code Talkers in perpetuity. Today, all veterans of foreign conflicts are celebrated on this day as well, from World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, Grenada, the Persian Gulf, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan.
