Funeral escort for US Army SSG Leonard Day Jr. on 2/20

Gallup, NM – The family of US Army SSG Leonard Day Jr. humbly requesting a funeral escort on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

Graveside service for Leonard Day Jr., 44, of Hunters Point, Arizona, will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 9 a.m., at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
Leonard was born Nov. 22, 1979, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, into the Isleta Pueblo, born for Honágháahnii (One-walks-around Clan). His nalí is Tł’ízí lání (Many Goats); cheii is Naakai dine’é (Mexican). He passed away Feb. 7, 2024, in Hunters Point.
Leonard graduated from Manzano High School in Albuquerque and served in the U.S. Army for 13 years and 4 months. He was an Afghanistan Veteran who was injured by RoadSide Bomb in 2007 and a Purple Heart Recipient. Leonard served in 82nd Airborne and also the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He was a foodie who enjoyed cooking, fishing, biking, and spending time with his children.
Leonard is survived by his sons, Alejandro Day and Michael Day; daughters, Esperanza Day and Isabella Day; parents, Antoinette and Leonard Day Sr.; brother, Dillon Day; and sisters, Rosemary Cook, Rachelle Roberts, Patricia Day, Maria Day, and Melinda Day Wheeler.
Leonard is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dillon and Rose Platero; paternal grandparents, Alice Williams and Charlie Day; and three uncles and two aunts. Pallbearers will be members of the honor guard.
A potluck reception will take place at the Gallup Lions Club (3330 E. Aztec) following service at 4 p.m.
