DESCRIPTION:FLAGSTAFF\, AZ – The family of USMC Sgt. Ashkie Lokai Laughter is requesting a funeral escort on Wednesday December 30\, 2020. \nSTAGING: 9:30 Norvel Owens Mortuary\, 914 E. Rte 66\, Flagstaff\, Az.\nKSU: 10:15 am\nDESTINATION: Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery- Bellemont\, Az\nROUTE: east on Rte 66\, right on Ponderosa Pkwy an onto E Butler\, merge onto W I-40 for 12.8 mi\, exit 185 for Transwestern Rd at Bellemont \nGravesite service will be conducted for immediate family only. Thereafter\, visitors may pay their respect immediately following services will be conducted in accordance with CDC and Navajo Nation Covid-19 guidelines to protect friends and family. Thank you for understanding and cooperating. \nUSMC Sgt. Ashkie Lokai Laughter joined the U.S. Marine Corps while he was still in high school and went to boot camp shortly after his graduation. While he was in the service he took part in Operation Noble Eagle\, Operation Enduring Freedom\, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Overall\, he completed three combat tours and was a staff sergeant select when he decided to get out of the military to be with his family. He then started the traditional healing ceremonies and had come a long way. He was a disabled veteran and suffered from PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). He always said the only thing that helped him through all his hardships he endured was his family and his traditional ways. \nHe was an active member of the Native American Church and participated in his Navajo traditional ceremonies. When he got out of the military he started school at the University of Phoenix and completed his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. He also worked at the VA Call Center helping veterans get their disability claims through and he was always showing his support for his follow brothers and sisters in arms. He will forever be remembered and greatly missed. \nOn behalf of the Navajo Hopi Honor Riders\, we send our condolences and prayers to the family of USMC Sgt. Ashkie Lokai Laughter.
