The son of the late Margaret Anderson and Howard Hardy Sr. He was preceded in death by an older sister\, a younger sister and brother. He was the oldest of his siblings. He is survived by his wife Beverly Hardy of 52 years and 3 sons\, Joseph\, Frank Jr. and Hamilton and 6 daughters\, Sharon\, Marie\, Esmerelda\, Cassandra\, Cheryl and Mary\, thirty-three grandkids and twenty-two great grandkids\, four brothers and one sister\, many nieces and nephews and countless extended family. \nFrank is from the Tower House Clan (Kinyaa’aanii) and born for Water’s Edge Clan (Tabaahii)\, his maternal grandfather is of the Red-running-into-the-water Clan (Tachiinii) and paternal grandfather is Bitter Water Clan (Todachinii). \nFrank was an Army Veteran served for 2 years active duty and 4 years ready reserve. Frank participated in the Vietnam War as a soldier in the United States Army. When Frank left the military\, He left with the rank of Specialist (E-4) he worked as a firefighter later transitioning to automotive mechanic. He was a member of Ganado Veterans Group. He also showed his patriotism at Gourd Dances. \nFrank worked at a mechanic for Navajo Engineering Authority (NECA)\, Apache County and Chevron Mining (CMI). He retired from CMI. Begody served his country from August 1966 to August 1968\, he vaguely spoke about his time in Vietnam. \nUS Army Spc4 Dan Begody never married or had children of his own\, but he was an extraordinary brother\, uncle\, and grandfather. Begody was a man of God. He attended church regularly and he enjoyed walking to and from church. He preferred to walk\, and was always seen walking. \nHe also enjoyed his nieces\, nephews and grandkids through his siblings. They adored him with all their hearts. From the time his nephews and nieces were born he helped care for them\, playing with them\, bouncing them around and singing to them as he walked around. He sang native songs\, to entertain the children in his family\, the kids all have good memories about his singing. \nBegody’s niece shares a memory of her uncle\, “Dan showed us tricks\, one that I recall was where he cut a string in front of you and he puts both cut ends in his mouth\, as we watched he moves his mouth around\, and he pulled the string out and it was not cut anymore. It was one string again. We were all amazed. We all have our special memories of Dan\, he will always be in our hearts and our thoughts. He has affected the lives of many people. During his service\, his MOS was 0311 Infantry Rifleman and he was part of the 1st Battalion\, 9th Marine Regiment\, 3rd Marine Division\, nicknamed “The Walking Dead”. He was stationed on Camp Schwab\, Okinawa\, while he served during the Vietnam War. He took part in operation LamSon 72. David was Honorably Discharged in 1974\, before he returned to the Navajo Nation. He met his wife\, my mom\, Arlene Sombrero in the spring of 1975; while working/attending Monument Valley High School. They were married on Sept 6\, 1975 at Inscription House\, Az. He continued to service his community by working for the Navajo Nation as a Branding Inspector\, Liaison for Tribal Work Experience Program\, Job training as a Welder (relocated his family and him to Pascagoula\, Mississippi)\, Welder for San Juan Power Plant and CDK Construction Company (on top of Black Mesa)\, 1981 completed his Cert in Automotive and Diesel Mechanic School at the Universal Technical Institute using his Montgomery GI Bill\, 1991 got elected to Chapter President for Inscription House Chapter\, Shonto Preparatory School Board President\, 1995 Council Delegate for Inscription House Chapter 1995-99\, School Board President for Kinłání (Flagstaff) Dormitory\, and NAGSA President. \nHe has helped his community in so many ways while serving them as a political leader and as a spiritual leader he has helped many people from all walks of life\, through the Native American Church. He believed\, valued\, and practiced the Navajo traditional ways and teachings of life. David was a family man and was always believed that you should help those who cannot do for themselves and inspire and teach the youth. His enlightenment was always sought in education\, belief\, lifelong bonds\, and retain Navajo Culture and language. His leadership is exemplary as he was dedicated to the needs of the people and always held the best interest of all. He will never be forgotten and will live on through his teachings and his family\, children\, and grandchildren. While he was in the service he took part in Operation Noble Eagle\, Operation Enduring Freedom\, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Overall\, he completed three combat tours and was a staff sergeant select when he decided to get out of the military to be with his family. He then started the traditional healing ceremonies and had come a long way. He was a disabled veteran and suffered from PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). He always said the only thing that helped him through all his hardships he endured was his family and his traditional ways. \nHe was an active member of the Native American Church and participated in his Navajo traditional ceremonies. When he got out of the military he started school at the University of Phoenix and completed his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. He also worked at the VA Call Center helping veterans get their disability claims through and he was always showing his support for his follow brothers and sisters in arms.
