He was the oldest of six children. Travis attended Monument Valley High School from 1980-1985. He was a US Army Infantry Man from 1987-1991 with an honorary discharge. He spent most of his military career in Germany. He attended Kicking Horse Job Corps and graduated from Crownpoint Institute of Technology\, gaining an education and training in carpentry and heavy equipment. He had many jobs throughout his short but full life. He was a hard worker\, and very dedicated to his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends. \nFollowing the burial service\, a reception will be held at Jennie L. He was originally from Smoke Signals\, Arizona where he resided alongside his wife of 65 years\, Ella R. Cook. Together\, they built a life together. \n\n\n\nWhen Lee was 16 years old\, he was a student at Keams Canyon Boarding School. When the white buses pulled up to the area\, he lied about his age\, and was drafted into the US Army. He left school to serve his country. He served in the Korean War in the 1950s\, he was a purple heart recipient and listed as a POW with the Veteran’s Administration. He was discharged from the US Army in 1955. As a humbled man\, Lee did not publicly disclose his service experiences or stories with many; he always told people that he left the stories on the battlefields where they belong. \n\n\n\nAt the age of 91\, he leaves behind a lifetime of teachings and leadership to his surviving family members. He was a proud father\, grandfather\, nali. He had eight children\, five adopted children\, twenty-two grandchildren\, and thirty-five great great grandchildren. He was the biggest Arizona Cardinals fan and took deep interests in livestock\, western movies\, and Navajo traditional ceremonies. \n\n\n\nOur family is kindly requesting an escort from St. Michaels to Cave Creek\, where he will be laid to rest\, next to his brother and sisters in arms at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on November 2\, 2021 at 10am. He is known for his good and kind heart and love for helping his community.\n\n\nHe devoted 9 years helping his community as the service coordinator at Red Rock Community. He had a great sense of humor\, always making people laugh. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle\, just cruising around. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers\, he was a musician and played the guitar for various ministries\, including the gospel band\, the Joyful Sounds.\n\n\nHe had four daughters\, a son-in-law and 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Troy Orion Tom\, was brought back to the United States. \n“Right now he’s just our hero\,” David Tom said Aug. 21. “His family is all proud of him that he was out there\, serving his country.” \nHis son was killed in the Kandahar province\, Afghanistan. David Tom said the family was told he stepped on a roadside bomb when his unit was setting up camp after a fight with Taliban insurgents. \nTom joined the Army in June 2006 after graduating from Aztec High School and was based in Fort Lewis\, Wash. His father said he joined the military because he wanted to physically and mentally challenge himself. \n“He was the nicest\, the kindest\, son. He made everybody smile. He always had a smile on his face — never\, ever did he get mad. DESCRIPTION:Navajo Code Talkers Day\, Aug. 14\n\n\nEstablished through a presidential proclamation by President Ronald Reagan on August 14\, 1982. It was the anniversary of the day the Japanese surrendered to the U.S. It was not until December 2006 that the Navajo Nation created an official tribal holiday for Aug. 14 to honor and remember the Navajo Code Talkers in perpetuity. Today\, all veterans of foreign conflicts are celebrated on this day as well\, from World War II\, the Korean War\, Vietnam\, Grenada\, the Persian Gulf\, Desert Storm\, Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan.

Taliman served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from active duty. From 1972 to 1974\, he continued serving in the Naval Reserve ManPower Center\, Bainbridge\, Maryland. \nSeaman Taliman received the National Defense Service Medal\, The Vietnam Service Medal and The Vietnam Campaign Medal. After leaving the Navy\, he enrolled in a Trade School\, in Oklahoma\, to become a carpenter. He then worked for the Navajo Tribe Water and Sanitation Department and then the Parks and Recreation Department\nin which he retired. \nPeterson Taliman\,73 was Ta’chi’nii born for Tse’ji’kinii\, was from Navajo Station born August 25\, 1947. His date of death was on August 4\, 2021. He is preceded in death by his Father Isaac Taliman\, his Mother Mary R. Brown and Sisters Marilyn Taliman\, Donna Shirley\, Garnet Smith\, Alberta Yazzie\, Lois Todachenie\, and brothers Freddy and Cato Taliman. He is survived by Sisters Mary Ann Arnold\, Rena and Marie Taliman. \nOn behalf of the Navajo Hopi Honor Riders\, we send our condolences and prayers to the family of US Navy E-3 Peterson Talima.
