SUMMARY:Funeral escort for US Army PVT Lee Cook
DESCRIPTION:ST. MICHAELS\, AZ – The family of US Army PVT Lee Cook is humbly requesting a funeral escort on Tuesday November 2\, 2021. \n\nSTAGING: 4:45am Summit Funeral Home\, St. Michaels\, Az\nKSU: 5:00am\nDESTINATION: 10am National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona\, 23029 N Cave Creek Rd\, Phoenix\, AZ 85024\n\n\nROUTE: south on Route 12\, onto I-40 to Flagstaff\, south on I-17 to Cave Creek \n\n\n\nUS Army PVT Lee Cook was born in the summer of 1930. He was of the Bįįh bitoodnii (Deer Springs People Clan)\, and born for Kiyaa’áanii (Towering House People Clan). He was originally from Smoke Signals\, Arizona where he resided alongside his wife of 65 years\, Ella R. Cook. Together\, they built a life together. \n\n\n\nWhen Lee was 16 years old\, he was a student at Keams Canyon Boarding School. When the white buses pulled up to the area\, he lied about his age\, and was drafted into the US Army. He left school to serve his country. He served in the Korean War in the 1950s\, he was a purple heart recipient and listed as a POW with the Veteran’s Administration. He was discharged from the US Army in 1955. As a humbled man\, Lee did not publicly disclose his service experiences or stories with many; he always told people that he left the stories on the battlefields where they belong. \n\n\n\nAt the age of 91\, he leaves behind a lifetime of teachings and leadership to his surviving family members. He was a proud father\, grandfather\, nali. He had eight children\, five adopted children\, twenty-two grandchildren\, and thirty-five great great grandchildren. He was the biggest Arizona Cardinals fan and took deep interests in livestock\, western movies\, and Navajo traditional ceremonies. \n\n\n\nOur family is kindly requesting an escort from St. Michaels to Cave Creek\, where he will be laid to rest\, next to his brother and sisters in arms at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona on November 2\, 2021 at 10am. Summit Funeral Home is allowing a 30 minute viewing on Nov.1 Monday. Though he remained humbled about his service\, we are committed to preserving his legacy by publicly recognizing his military service. \n\n\n\nOn behalf of the Navajo Hopi Honor Riders\, we send our condolences and prayers to the family of US Army PVT Lee Cook. We thank you for your service soldier\, you will never be forgotten. Rest in peace. \n\n\n\nContact: Cassie Cook (granddaughter)\nceecook3@yahoo.com
