DESCRIPTION:GALLUP\, NM – The family of USMC SGT Jerome J. Platero is humbly requesting a funeral escort on Thursday August 19\, 2021. \nStaging: 9:00am Cope Memorial\, Gallup\, NM\nKSU: 9:30am\nDestination: Dalton Pass\, NM (Nahodishgish Private Family Plot)\nRoute: north on Hwy 491\, east on Rte.9 towards Crownpoint (48miles) \nUSMC SGT Jerome J. Platero served in the Marine Corp for a total of four years. One tour to Iraq in 2003 Operation Iraq Freedom\, he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Gallup\, NM from 2005 to 2009\, as a Realty Safety Clerk. He followed his wife to pursue her career in the Army and lived at Fort Campbell\, KY and Fort Drum\, NY. He was married to Nanette Platero for 20 years and had three children; Anthony Platero\, Katelynn Platero and Andre Platero. \nThey moved back to Crownpoint\, NM and began working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 2018 to 2021. He loved watching his kids play in high school sporting events\, he was the community coach and dedicated fan. He enjoyed fishing\, watching his teams play; the Carolina Panthers\, Chicago Bulls\, North Carolina Tarheels and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He had the passion to cook and was an awesome chef\, he invented his own recipes. He loved to chat with anyone and everyone in the Crownpoint community. He always had to stop\, chat and shake everyone’s hand. He made everyone laugh. Jerome had the smile to brighten anyone’s day whether he knew them or not. He had the most distinctive contagious laugh that you wouldn’t forget! He was a very unique irreplaceable person with a genuine heart of gold.
