Our Story

The Navajo reservation is one of the largest in the U.S. and spans three states. According to statistics during the Vietnam War, close to 90% of the 86,000 Native American who enlisted volunteered. Resulting in the highest record of service per capita of any other ethic group.

In order to bring attention to local, state and federal governments to address the need for VA health care services for Navajo-Hopi veterans, on the reservation. Our documentary addresses the issues related to obtaining proper VA medical treatment, and profiles our warriors, their families, and the Navajo-Hopi Honor Riders (NHHR), a motorcycle communIty that honors all past and present military veterans, including their families.

As a military tribute to her brother Alvin, producer/director Ralphina Hernandez is creating a documentary, based on family experiences and includes completed interviews with Native American Veterans, their families (who are affected by their service), and a community that wants to bring attention to the need for a medical facility to be accessible on the Navajo-Hopi reservation.

The Impact

To help inspire people and communities to address specific health care and the traditional social needs of our Native warriors. This documentary will help bring awareness to this critical issue and help make quality heath care services available for Veteran's on the Navajo-Hopi reservation.

Currently, we are approximately half way though filming, however we need more funds to continue production and post-production, cost that are beyond our means to complete the film.

If immediate funding does not happen within the next 6 months, the completion timeline will be pushed back and take a year or more to complete. By donating funds, your contribution will help fund both production and post-production aspects for the film that will help us finish filming in 6-9 months.

What We Need & What You Get

At this point in time, we have completed filming for the trailer, which include a few interviews. However, the cost to complete production and begin post-production include the following expenses:

  • Film Production Insurance Cost
  • Equipment Cost and Rental
  • Travel Expenses for film crew
  • Editor/Motion Graphic Designer
  • Music Composition

A majority of the cost is focused on production insurance. Secondary cost will cover equipment cost and rental. As well as fund travel expenses for 4 or more crew members to complete filming. Not only will we need to travel to the Navajo-Hopi communities to complete additional filming, but we also will need to travel out of state to help explore solutions to the heath care issue.

Post-production cost include hiring a editor, motion-graphic designer, and music composer for the film.

By contributing to our film, you'll receive various perks such as feather decals to display your support for our Native Veterans, T-shirts, beaded "Honor Rider" bracelets and NHHR biker patches. Additional perks include invitations to film festival screenings, and your name included in the films credits.

For two generations, the United States government has used the bravery and sacrifice of the Navajo and Hopi Code Talkers in WWII as a recruiting tool to entice young members of the Navajo and Hopi Nations to enlist in the military.

Despite the fidelity and service of these veterans, our country has failed to live up to its duty to care for those men and women who won and have maintained our nation’s freedom.

The Problem:

No Congressional funding for a VA hospital or clinic – forcing veterans to travel up to six hours one-way in order to receive proper VA medical treatment.

The Solution:

Tell my Member of Congress, I stand with the Forgotten Veterans of the Navajo and Hopi Nations, and to fund a VA hospital or clinic, in the next Veterans Affairs Budget!

Fill out a pledge card today and help let Congress know the need to help these Forgotten Veterans
